It had sounded like a standard contract: Waah, suspicious outsider. Please help us, Master Relict. Missing animals, strange lights and scary noises, blah blah blah. No reports of actual danger to humans, though. Not even any concrete evidence to connect the so-called mistwitch to the disappearances, just a vague suspicion from the local gossips and curtain-twitchers.

But hey — they were willing to pay for the privilege of his time, and that suited Corvis just fine. Maybe this could be one of those short and sweet jobs that constantly seemed to land in other Relict's laps. Corvis had heard any number of stories told to while away the long nights of Mistide; the entire abbey hunkered beneath Eldfäst’s wards, showing off scars and laughing about the best and worst of what they'd survived that year.

With any luck, he could be done and back with hours enough to spend some of his promised payment on dinner in the local tavern. With even more luck, he wouldn't be too worn out to go looking for a bit of company after.
