Please be aware that while the Songs of a Sunless Land series is ultimately a story of adventure, love, second chances, thrilling heroics, and building a supportive found family, it is an epic dark fantasy series built on the hurt/comfort trope. As such, it can touch on sensitive content that may be difficult for some readers, including:

monsters (fae, humanoid, and bestial)
magic that comes at a cost
fighting
swearing
disability
PTSD
child abandonment/neglect
references of child abuse
ye olde xenophobia
fallibility
secrets
betrayal

👉 Violence (Spoilers)

More specifically, violence comes in the form of:

major character injuries (on-page)
murder/mayhem
death; regardless of age, gender, sexuality, class, or other identifiers
mentions of physical abuse (off-page, before story begins)
violence + injury (on-page)
attempted hanging + violence against main character (on-page)
regional homophobia (some places & people are restrictive, others are relaxed; our characters travel to many places)
massive monster battles (acid-spitting giant lizards, jelly-eel dirigibles, tower-sized centipedes, & a ship-swallowing sea monster - just to name a few)
death of parents, parental figures, and other mentor-types...and all the fun you'd generally expect of your standard tabletop game or sword and sorcery novel

All steamy scenes are always between explicitly consenting adults; usually both open door and wildly enthusiastic. Enjoy those chapters without fear!

PLEASE NOTE: While I've tried to make these lists as comprehensive as possible, including calling in help to spot any tags I may have missed, it is impossible to give a complete accounting of topics all readers everywhere will be sensitive to. And too, there are often tangential tags I've purposefully left out where listing them might create an anticipation of their importance where there is none (Example: If a POV character has wings, but they are no more referenced than arms or legs, a tag such as 'wing fic' feels inaccurate or even dishonest, as this is not a story about having or caring for wings.)

I've tried my best to research the heck out of my topics where possible, but I'm under no illusion that I (or this series) are perfect. And too, while this series is ultimately a work of fiction, some portions were also drawn off (or at least extrapolated from) my personal, lived experiences; including ones I was injured during or my memory is otherwise blurred for, and therefore might be somewhat unreliable (and definitely biased).

👉 Specific Content Tags for Tales of a Sunless Land

The Tales of a Sunless Land series is a little different. While still canon, they are not part of the longer 'Relict Saga' epic. Instead, it's a chance to explore other narratives set in this same world. Some of these tales are further adventures of familiar characters, or you might see in-world history or legends given their own bit of canvas to play with. The betrayal of the Mad Boar is certainly on my docket, for one. And of course there's the steamy liaison between The Archduke and Prince Amydos in When Summer Comes in Winter's Court.

As such, these Tales may touch on different themes or topics than the main series; sometimes lighter, darker, or steamier than the Songs. When this happens, I do my best to make sure these stories get a 'Content Tags' page in the book file itself when I can (Amazon despises these, for example), and also here on SuncatcherPress.com

In the world of traditionally published books, these kinds of side stories would be kept under lock and key by publishers hungry to release the next big volume. But here in the indie world, I like to think there's space for indulgent, snackable stories too.
